Meet Grainful's Marketing Manager Katie Long and Sales Manager Emily Eisenhut. Katie and Emily both interned at Grainful while in the Ithaca area for college before joining the team full-time in June 2014.
The two are great additions to the team, partially due to the fact that they've been teammates long before Grainful. Emily and Katie were on the same ice hockey team growing up. They even played on the same line—Katie was the left wing and Emily was the right.
Emily is from Lansing, N.Y. She graduated in 2013 from Cornell University with a degree in hotel management and a minor in real estate. She is located in the Boston office.
Katie, an Ithaca resident, graduated from Ithaca College last year with a degree in business administration and with concentrations in marketing and management. She currently is based in Ithaca.
Tell us a little about what you do for Grainful.
Katie: As the marketing manager, on the day-to-day I am in charge of managing all of our social media sites, website, blog and online community. I work closely with our graphic designer, marketing, and PR partners which is incredible. It is great being able to work with so many talented people in our industry. I also run our social mission program which includes a combination of donations and community involvement that our team participates in.
Emily: As the sales manager, I oversee everything sales-related at Grainful. I work closely with our sales organization to book meetings at retailers and create promotional plans. I work with our brokers to make sure they are knowledgeable about our products and assist them in any way I can. I also merchandise at existing accounts on a regular basis, and enjoy building relationships with every manager I speak to. Lastly, I manage our demo companies.
What’s your favorite part about working for Grainful?
K: I would say my favorite part about working for Grainful is two-fold. First, it is the people. I have awesome co-workers. I have so much fun every day working with them, and they all work very hard. Everyone in the industry is also so kind and helpful; even if you are a younger employee and fairly new to the natural space, people respect you and are willing to teach you the ins and outs. Second, I am able to be involved in so many aspects of the business and that is a huge pro to working for a smaller company like Grainful. I am able to wear many hats and the responsibility that comes with that is great.
E: My favorite part is working with the team we have in place. Some people I knew growing up which is awesome, and everyone on the team is fun. It is a great environment to be in. Everyone works hard, and everyone has a lot of autonomy to take ownership of what they are doing. Also, it is great to learn so much about the natural products and CPG industry. I am able to go to food shows, meet with buyers, talk to people in the industry and that is invaluable experience.
What are your favorite activities to do in your spare time?
K: In my spare time, I enjoy eating out and trying new restaurants and cuisines. Recently, I've become a fan of cycling and hope to be an instructor one day, so I spend as much time as I can going to classes. I also enjoy spending time with friends and family. All my family and lots of my friends live in Ithaca, so it is very nice to be able to see them regularly.
E: In my spare time, I love to explore Boston. There is so much to do in Boston, especially in the summer. It is great to be able to check it all out and experience everything Boston has to offer. There are tons of restaurants in the area, I haven’t even made a dent in the restaurants in my neighborhood alone but I enjoy trying new places and new dishes. Also, I'm no Serena Williams but I really love playing tennis as much as I can.
If you were stuck on an island and could only eat one Grainful flavor, what would it be?
K: Andouille Sausage and Oats all the way. I love the spice!
E: Vegetarian Chili. I love the cheddar cheese on top and the spice. Yum!
