Bet you didn't know that March is frozen food month! Well it is and you are in luck because if anyone knows how to celebrate this occasion, it's Grainful.

Frozen food month is run by the National Frozen & Refrigerated Food Assocation or NFRA and this is the 33rd year that it has been celebrated. The organization encourages everyone to take a fresh look at frozen food.

Frozen is the new fresh

"Frozen vegetables may be even more healthful than some of the fresh produce sold in supermarkets," Gene Lester, Ph.D., a plant physiologist at the USDA Agricultural Research Center in Weslaco, Texas told Eating Well.

This is because fruits and vegetables are typically frozen at the peak of their ripeness, when they are also are the most nutrient packed. 

Besides the convenience of frozen foods, Howfreshstaysfresh.com also cited two recent studies that compared the nutrient content of frozen fruits and vegetables with their fresh counterparts and found that frozen fruits and vegetables are nutritionally superior or equal to their fresh counterparts.

Freezing fruits and vegetables means that less food is wasted and nutrients are easier to access. Frozen meals are also great because they are usually portion-controlled, not to mention they are also usually extremely cost efficient.
